How many of you use Goodreads and what do you use it for? Do you use it to track the books you read? Do you leave your reviews on there? Do you obsessively use their tag feature so that you can find/help people find books with certain tropes, genres, published in a certain year, etc.? That last one might be more just me lol.
As you can tell, I love using Goodreads. I think it’s a good tool to do all the above. However, there is one thing I’ve noticed (more on Goodreads than on any other review platform), and it honestly makes my blood boil. What is it? People being petty and leaving nasty reviews for shits and giggles.
I do think if you didn’t like a book, you have a right to say that you didn’t like the book. However, I don’t think you have the right to completely trash the book and the author because (excuse my French) you want to be a petty bitch and think you’re funny when you do so. I see so many of these petty bitch reviews where it’s the same group, and they comment on each other’s reviews like, “haha!! you’re so funny!!” No, what you are is rude and pathetic! Moving on…
How many of you have reading anxiety and what makes you anxious when reading a book? For example, I don’t like drama. I don’t like when the couple breaks up because of miscommunication, even though I know that they get back together in the end. I’m okay with it if it happens naturally and I don’t see it coming. But, if I get the sense that something like this is about to take place, I need to know where in the book it takes place or else my nerves are shot and I either end up not finishing the book, or it takes me forever to finish it. I’m thinking of starting a Reader Anxiety Anonymous group on Facebook, what do you think? I have no idea what we’d do in the group, but I was just thinking of this today and thought it’d be kind of fun to get likeminded people together.
Do you like TikTok videos/FB reels? I could spend hours upon hours just watching these videos. I watch anything from thirst traps, to comedy, to food videos. I recently came across a video and my immediate thought was, “The romance reader in my says there could a romance story brewing here.” Then a little while later, I thought of the book Marshmallow by Megan Wade. The book is about a plus size heroine who has a following on Instagram for her body positivity. One of her followers is a romance cover model who has fallen in love with her through her videos. He convinces the author who he’s shooting the cover for, to invite the heroine to take part in the shoot so that he could win her heart. It’s a really fun, short, and steamy read. Take a look at the video below and let me know what you think. Am I crazy to think this? Have you ever watched a TikTok (or Insta or FB) video and it reminded you of book you read?
