He's a 10 but… he's a Runaway Groomsman

⚠️ WARNING: This review may contain spoilers!

For the most part, I really enjoyed reading Meghan Quinn's Runaway Groomsman. I'm a big fan of the slow burn trope and this one had it in spades!

Sawyer is a Hollywood screenwriter who has gotten famous for writing romcoms for companies like Movieflix and Lovemark. When he flips off a bride and groom (a bride who happens to be his ex), he needs to lay low for a bit and decides to get out of dodge (sans one shoe ala Cinderella.) He finds himself at a bar in a town called Canoodle where he meets Fallon, our heroine, and Fallon's best friend Jaz who owns the bar.

Fallon gave up a nursing job to help run and manage her ailing grandfather's cabin rentals. Even though they're in desperate need of renovations, she's not giving up on his dream. When she sees Sawyer at her best friend's bar, she's reminded of their awful blind date that they had a year ago. When Sawyer never mentions it, she's hurt that she was forgettable, but she can't turn away a customer!

Like I said earlier, I liked this story for the most part. Sawyer was so swoonworthy! I especially loved how he interacted with Sully (Fallon's grandfather) especially in light of his diagnosis. I loved watching Sawyer and Fallon's feelings towards each other grow and my heart hurt for Sawyer when he realized he let Fallon get away on their blind date. Another thing I admired about Sawyer was that for most of the book, Fallon had a boyfriend, and Sawyer respected that and didn't make a move on her while she was with him.

The story, for me, started derailing and became sort of ridiculous when Fallon and Peter (the boyfriend) break up, and I got further aggravated by the big misunderstanding/miscommunication that takes place within the last 10% of the book. I really dislike when the H and h can't talk through their problems and assume things that end up blowing up in their face. I know it's for the drama and to build up angst between the couple for the inevitable HEA, but I'm not a fan. Especially since I grew up with parents who had issues communicating and would get into huge arguments that never solved anything.
