BLURB:

From Wall Street Journal best-selling author Brittney Sahin comes a thrilling new stand-alone romance.

She was the girl next door. His brother’s ex. And the woman he spent a decade pretending to hate....

After 20 years of service, the Navy told me it’d be too risky to operate again, forcing me to retire as a Navy SEAL. Going back to my hometown to lick my wounds and figure out what came next was never the plan. Neither was having to turn to some old friends to save my younger brother’s life when he wound up in trouble. It was smooth sailing at first. Until I realized my brother lied. And I was falling for my fake girlfriend—my brother’s ex-fiancée.

He wasn’t only my ex’s brother, he was the most frustrating man I’d ever met.

The last person I expected to save me when my Jeep broke down was Ryan Rossi—a distant, broody, sexy man who’d been a thorn in my side for years. I had no time or room for him in my life. I should’ve been on top of the world after my restaurant survived its first year. Instead, I was drowning in debt and living in my childhood home right next door to that handsome thorn.

When Ryan offered help, a favor for a favor, how could I say no? All I had to do was find him a girlfriend within a week. Someone who wasn’t me. Because no way could I offer to fake date him, even if I found myself desiring him at every turn. And yet, the next thing I knew, I was in Tuscany with Ryan down on one knee. For me.

While the relationship may have been fake, the danger wasn’t. And Ryan once again proved not all heroes wear capes.

MY REVIEW:

I listened to this audiobook at a recommendation from a friend. I was looking to break my Brittney Sahin cherry and she knew I was obsessed with Jason Clarke’s voice.

I am obsessed with this story! I am most definitely going to one day add the paperback version of this book to my collection because I loved it so much! I absolutely loved Ryan and Natalia! I loved the pining! I loved how they tried to resist their attraction to each other, even though they also desperately wanted each other!

Ryan and Natalia have known each other since they were kids. Their families are neighbors, and Natalia used to date Ryan’s brother’s Andrew. When Ryan moves back home, he reconnects with Natalia and feelings start to reemerge. However, Ryan doesn’t want to make a move as Natalia’s his brother’s ex and Natalia’s always thought Ryan disliked her because he was a jerk to her for most of their younger years. When Andrew gets in trouble, it’s up to Ryan to save him and he can’t do it without Natalia’s help. As they spend time together, truths are revealed and the chemistry between Ryan and Natalia ignite.

This book can be read as a standalone, but it does feature some cameos from characters in her other series. As I mentioned above, this is the first book of Brittney’s that I’ve read/listened to and I had no problem following along with the story! I knew however, based on how frequent some of these side characters showed up, that they had to have had a story, and I confirmed this with my friend. I definitely plan on reading those books because this book was so well done! The romance, the suspense, the action scenes! Those action scenes, I felt like I was in the middle of an action movie!!

I was also intrigued by two other side characters, Maria and Enzo. Maria is Natalia’s sister and Enzo is the head chef at Natalia’s restaurant. It seems I read this book in time as their story is coming out in just a few days (10/10/2023!)

Like I also mentioned before, I am obsessed with Jason Clarke’s voice. I really loved his take on Ryan in this story and his Italian accent was so good! I think I fell even more in love with his voice with that accent!

If you’re brand new to Brittney Sahin, and either don’t know where to start or you’ve never heard of her but are a fan of romantic suspense, you need to read/listen to this! This is a good entry point into her world and will make you interested in going back through her backlist to officially meet the side characters and their significant others!
