BLURB:
From USA Today bestselling author Jessica Hawkins comes a witty workplace romance standalone filled with smart enemies-to-lovers banter and loads of inconvenient attraction...
There’s a thin line between love and hate . . . and it cuts right through the middle of their office.
Bad boys? They run right over good girls like Georgina Keller. But after a confidence-shattering breakup, she’s determined not to let anyone at her new workplace push her around—least of all the brooding creative director, a “bad boy of publishing” who’s made it clear she’s enemy #1.
Sebastian Quinn's taste for fast cars, late nights, and beautiful women may have gotten him to the top of a leading New York magazine, but the reputation that made him is suddenly threatening to end his career.
Georgina can help Modern Man shed its bad reputation, but in order to do that, she’ll have to start at the top—and no amount of rakish charm or inconvenient attraction will distract her.
Because if Sebastian gets her right where he wants her, it means she’s going down.
MY REVIEW:
I’m disappointed in myself with this book. Not because it didn’t meet my expectations, but because it EXCEEDED them! I started reading this book about a month ago, but when I reached the point in the book where the conflict comes to a head, I was too stubborn to read through what I assumed would happen! I don’t read many books through KU, but this was one of them, and I finally decided to get over myself and finish the book today so that the author could get paid for the full book read, and so I could clear a spot in my KU library. I am so glad I did and I am definitely buying this book so I could read it again in the future!
I really enjoyed Sebastian and Georgina’s story. As the blurb says, this is an enemies-to-lovers office romance. Sebastian runs into Georgina when he makes his morning coffee shop stop before heading into work. Both Sebastian and Georgina are intrigued by each other, but miscommunication ruins their meet cute. Not even an hour later, Sebastian finds out that HR has brought Georgina on to help turn the company around.
It was really fun watching these two bicker back and forth, and how frustrated Sebastian got when his teammates sided with Georgina! I did feel bad for Sebastian. He worked his way up through the company to creative director, and to have someone come in and question his vision for the magazine must have been frustrating!
I loved when Sebastian made an effort to get to know Georgina outside of work, and how he included Bruno, Georgina’s dog, on their date. I loved watching both let down their walls around each other.
I’d definitely recommend this book if you’re looking an enemies-to-lovers office romance. No OW/OM drama, other than maybe two scenes where they’re used to irritate the other person, and not many rolling my eyes moments.
Other things I’d like to mention:
Justin, Sebastian’s friend and co-worker, was a complete riot throughout this book, and I loved his scenes! I can’t wait to find out who ends up taming him (it’s a newsletter freebie linked in the back of the book, that I have yet to read.)
I really disliked Vance. and I wish Jessica let us witness someone ripping him a new one with how he treated Sebastian.
